Yellow House Closing Checklist     (allow 3 hours to complete)

• Take all garbage and recyclables to the dump or home

• Take perishable food home

• Return any house blankets and pillows to closets and bins

• Put vinyl mattress covers on, tissue boxes upside down [mice]

• Clean sinks, toilets, shower, bathroom floors

• Clean stovetop, kitchen countertops, kitchen table

• Empty ashes from wood stove and discard at end of drainage ditch across driveway

• Sweep and mop/swiffer kitchen floor (pour mop water on ashes)

• Vacuum bedrooms, hallways, living and dining room floors

• Turn off propane at tanks outside (silver gears, clockwise) 

• Turn off hot water heater breaker, deep well breaker (if on)

• Unplug pump at overhead socket (last call for bathrooms!)

• Turn off lights, outside lights (nightlights OK).  Close curtains and blinds 

• Lock all doors

When closing in Winter:

• Unplug, empty and clean fridge.  Prop doors slightly open with broom or board [mold]

• Bring porch chairs inside if end of season

• Cover furniture with old slipcovers (bin in bathroom or cellar)

• Pour red/pink antifreeze in corner hole of furnace condensation pump until the line turns pink

• Turn thermostat off and turn off furnace breaker on cellar stairs after furnace stops

• Close blue gas line valves behind stove (in cellar) and furnace

• Verify that the hot water breaker is off, deep well breaker is off, pump is unplugged

• Open all faucet and shower taps

• Drain sink sprayer in kitchen by squeezing white plastic coupling in line [freezes]

• When faucets stop running, open spigot at base of water tank and let drain

• Open outside faucet to drain deep well tank, open spigot at base when water stops

• Open all midline drain valves in basement and kitchen crawlspace

• Open hot water heater drain line

• Open top and bottom drain tap bolts on pump

• Flush toilets until empty, scoop or siphon water from tank to bowl, plunge remaining water out of bowls

• Red Antifreeze in toilet bowls, tanks, sinks and shower drains

• Padlock front, porch, and garage doors

• Close and padlock gate on way out [combo should be 2198]
